Biggest Antiques fair

If I was to ask you where Newark is I am guessing you would say….New Jersey, USA. However if I were to ask an antique dealer from anywhere in the world they would reply… Nottinghamshire, England. This is because Newark has become a Mecca for any antiques dealer/lover. With up to 3000 stalls it takes the whole two days to get around. But as they say ‘time flies when your having fun’. Now in its 25th year Newark international antiques and collectors fair, the biggest of its kind anywhere in the world is still going strong. People still flock from all over the globe to visit the event that is held 6 times a year at the Newark and Nottinghamshire showground. It a vital part of the local economy with guest houses, hotels and even restaurants booked out sometimes months in advance. In my opinion the reason Newark is still going so is the fact that if Newark died the antiques industry would die. Thousands of stallholders all across the UK have stalls at the fair for 2 days 6 times a year. This is the only time (with the exception of Ardingly antiques fair) that buyer’s from the USA, China, South Korea, Japan, Australia and in fact every country I can think of, come to purchase from the UK dealers. This is where a large majority of the dealers make a large proportion of their income. As the foreign buyers fill containers full of furniture and other pieces and ship them back to their respective country. Over the years many famous faces have visited Newark antiques fair trying to spot a bargain from a huge array of products such as furniture, jewellery, porcelain, ornamentals and much much more. With the introduction of auction websites such as eBay visitor number at Newark and all other antique fairs have been falling over the last 10 years, until last year that is.
