Every single day there are more than 1,500 books published, so it requires a good bit of effort for a new book to gain notice. Book marketing tactics have to be creative and ongoing in order to set a book apart from the rest. This article deals with some effective and relatively inexpensive online methods for book marketing and author marketing.
One proven online book marketing method is to put together a social media strategy that has the potential to go viral on the Internet. If you set up a sweepstakes-type contest, it is possible to get people excited and talking about your book in way that also encourages them to share the news. To generate buzz for his or her new book, all an author really needs is a blog website, a facebook page, a twitter account, and a great -œgive-away- prize like a brand-new iPad. Giving away an eReader just seems like a nice fit for a book contest. It is important that the contest provides an incentive for visitors to invite others to participate, register for the contest and receive a newsletter, and share your book with others. The rules for the contest you will need to qualify the information necessary to submit an entry: -œAn -œEntry- comprises a form filled out with the following information: First Name, Last Name, Email Address, (etc. ask for the information you need here). Entrants must also have a Facebook login and be a fan of the Facebook Page by clicking on the -œLike- button before entering the sweeps.- Or ask for whatever information you desire. It could read like this: -œWin a free iPad or a copy of my latest book! Here is how to enter the contest: On my blog, leave a comment saying you would like to participate in the contest in your own words, and also say that would like to sign up for my newsletter. Re-Tweet my tweet about the contest, paste this tweet to your Facebook status. If you don’t have Twitter or Facebook, you can only leave a comment on the blog saying you don’t have either Facebook or Twitter. Here is the tweet (leave the itty bitty URL here). Feel free to browse my blog www.yourname.com. We will select the winner from the comments section of the blog. You can leave a new comment every day of the contest and also post my tweets. I will post a new tweet each morning that you can retweet that day. The contest goes for a week, so you can have seven entries and increase your odds of winning. If you want to really increase your odds, you can also post a video on YouTube with a link back to my blog contest page. We will chose a winner randomly at a certain date and time, and will ship the prizes by a certain date and time. Good luck! Don’t forget to share my contest with your friends.- Everyone who participates in the contest is actually helping you promote your book by writing a review, posting a video, or getting a friend to come to the book sweepstakes page. Each time a person performs one of these actions, it increases his or her chance to win the prize. The contest should be active for around three months, enough time for a visitor to find your book and contest, promote you to new visitors; and repeat the cycle. You can get other sites to talk about your book and contest. Search for online magazines and blogs that are related to the topic of your book. Ask them if you can publish your contest there. Links from one of these sites will not only bring visitors who are interested in the topic, but will increase your contest webpage rankings on search engines. Another way to get some positive press about your book contest is to donate a percentage of the contest fees to a worthwhile non-profit organization that is related to the subject of the book. In this way the non-profit website will also post your book promotion on their site and include a message that will affiliate you with their cause, and which can really promote good will with your readers.
