Walt Disney Home Entertainment released the Edition in 2005 to an excited audience who loved to see the brainy Casey turn into a beautiful figure skater. The movie is all about realizing dreams and doing all that you can to make them come true. The movie also depicts a teenager’s struggle between her heart’s desire and her mother’s dreams for her.

Casey Carlyle, played by talented Michelle Trachtenberg, is a teenager who is all set to go to Harvard and make it big. She is a physics genius and is encouraged by her teacher to write a physics project that she could present at Harvard. Till Casey starts working on her project she believes that her mother’s dream of sending her to an Ivy League college is something she wants as well. Soon she realizes otherwise. She chooses to apply mathematics and physics to all tricky ice skating jumps and twirls to device a formula as her physics project. However, as she researches, she feels the urge to try the formulas and jumps herself. Once she hits the skating rink she sees her dreams and aspirations change. She realizes that not only is she good at figure skating, but she is also quite passionate about it. This marks the turning point in her life. The movie tries to portray the competitiveness and the rivalry that is intrinsic to such a sport. The movie shows some good jumps and stunts and Casey fits her role perfectly. She is quite believable in her acting as a physics geek as well as a gorgeous, elegant figure skater.

The movie is a mix of comedy, drama, romance, competition and lots of ice-skating. Ice Princess has some great performances by Michelle Trachtenberg as the lead, Joan Cusack as her anxious and pushy mother and Kim Cattrall as her tough coach. Casey faces a lot of opposition from her mother, who at first is not supportive at all, and her coach, who tries to ruin a competition for her because she wants her own daughter to be the star. Ice Princess is a story of courage, determination, will power and a lot of hard work. How Casey turns the tide around and wins everyone’s hearts, even the people who oppose her, and chases her dream is something the entire family will enjoy.

The Edition DVD makes it even better by including four deleted scenes, an alternate opening and two music videos “Reach” by Caleigh Peters and “No One” by Aly & AJ.
