India Ice Skating Sport Adventure

Also known as Figure Skating, the wonderful sport is one of the ancient games of the world. History says that skating dates back to 3000 B.C. The archaeological survey also limelight the oldest pair of skates in Switzerland, Russia, Scandinavia, Germany, Great Britain and Netherlands. In the 19th century, the joy of ice-skating spread like wild fire in different parts of the world.

Shimla- an Ice-Skating Destination

While many foreign countries began playing ice-skating, India, too, pave the way for skaters. The Himalayan regions in the country remain clogged with white sheets of snow and tourist find pleasure to splash ice with a pair of skates. Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh is a remarkable skating zone for the enthusiasts.

The ice-skating ring in Shimla has the largest open-air area in India. It is equipped with naturally frozen ice, following low temperatures all the year round. The Ice-skating Club manages the need of the enthusiasts, visiting here. This winter adventure sport generally takes place in the early December and continues till late February. Skaters can enjoy paling on the ice in two sessions everyday, i.e, in the morning and in the evening.

Tourist with a mood to practice skating can earn a membership card from the skating club. They can either opt this for a short term or can even go for single session. Besides, the carnival season also schedules a number of programmes like fancy dress competition, cultural dances, ice hockey and lot more.

Skating in Shimla is far away from the range of extra-ordinary preparation. Skating equipments like skate guards, pairs of skates etc are available on the ring. The only fact is packaging woolen clothes and first-aid kits.

Ice-Skating Competition in Kolkata

Kolkata in East India, also has a ice-skating ring, located at the Clown Town. Recently, the Ice Skating Association of India has organized a mega event, which enlisted two groups- figure skating and speed skating. Both the beginners and experts, irrespective of gender has participated. The main purpose of this National Ice-Skating Championship was to select skaters for the 2010 Winter Olympics, to be held at Vancouver.
