Multicultural Diversity Training

With the rapid inflow of immigrants, the need for multicultural diversity training is now being felt strongly. Unlike the picture even a few years back, schools are facing a new challenge on the best way to provide an effective education to their students. Most of the classrooms nowadays have students coming from different cultural and racial backgrounds. The expectations and perspectives of these students are widely diverse and that in turn necessitates multicultural diversity training for the teachers of these schools. These issues can not be solved in the conventional way and while considering multicultural diversity training for teachers, it becomes necessary for the teachers to train themselves according to the present need while showing the students the correct path to cooperative development and an effective education.The first issue to be handled by multicultural diversity training is English as a foreign language for these students. Culturally diverse students often struggle to cope with English along with balancing the other subjects. Appointing teachers with bilingual efficiency helps solve this issue to some extent, especially where students represent fewer communities. But in a widely varying student population, it becomes difficult for a school to solve this problem in this way.Multicultural diversity training is expected to incorporate a higher levels of sensitivity and mindfulness in the persona of the teachers. Special multicultural diversity training for teachers comprises two chief factors – professional improvement and personality development. The professional improvement courses would assist the teachers in identifying some particular aspects of classroom teaching in order to maintain a homogeneous atmosphere amidst all the diversities. This multicultural diversity training helps to take individual care of the students without making any compromise with their cultural and racial sentiments. The personality development training, on the other hand, focuses on the effectiveness of the professional improvement training for a teacher. If the outlook of the teacher is against respectful acceptance of multicultural diversity, then professional development of the teacher is never going to be possible.Commitment, on the teacher’s part, is another key aspect that the multicultural diversity training focuses upon. It is essential for the teacher to adopt a non-discriminating stance to promote the values of unity and mutual respect. It is the teacher’s responsibility to come up with constructive solutions to eradicate insensitivity and narrowness in the minds of the children that may result from their upbringing.
