Medicine Balls – The Missing Link

For all you fitness junkies out there I can tell you that there’s a piece of equipment that is greatly under utilized in a training program. The medicine ball. The advantages of these weighted delights are far and many and can be specifically used to help people increase their core strength and abdominal size and definition.Before reading on, please keep in mind that if you don’t employ a healthy diet which will help you lose the fat covering your abs, you’ll never see the treasures beneath. Diet in my opinion is by far the most important element in a training regime. Unless you are some sort of genetic freak, it ultimately decides on who will reap the benefits of such a program; if your dedicated enough to fix your diet and live a healthier lifestyle then points to you. But if your not, then good luck wasting your time. They are the cold hard facts.Nowadays, many don’t realize that by adding resistance to your core training is a key factor in increasing the definition and size of your abs. Think about it. When you walk into a gym to train a muscle group you should be aiming to increase the weight regularly, lifting the same weight over and over again causes the body to adapt and in the long run will lead to no new muscle growth. By adding more weight over time, you are giving your body the best chance to improve strength, and the more load you put on that muscle, the more it is forced to adapt to the new stress that is applied to that muscle. This ultimately leads to muscle growth. Same applies to the abdominal region, however most people don’t realise that adding resistance to your core workouts can yield much better results.Doing countless sit ups at the end of every gym session will lead you to plateau. A Plateau can be defined as when the body adapts to a movement because it is performed repeatedly with the same workload, and as a result, no new muscle growth is triggered. Your core muscles see no need to grow because they simply are not required to. Adding a medicine ball into a sit up movement, shocks the muscles because they are not used to this new found stress. The results? Increases in strength and muscle size by forced adaption.By adding medicine balls into your training regime you can open the door to results you thought weren’t possible. Not only do they provide the opportunity to give you a core workout of a lifetime, they are very convenient. Scrap all of the ab machines at your local gym and do the workout from home. Coming in a range of sizes, they are an excellent addition to the home for a fitness freak. They allow you to fit in your core workout without even setting foot in the gym, all you need is the medicine ball and yourself.
