The Best St. Patrick’s Day Parties in Calgary

Like everywhere else in the world, everyone is irish in Calgary on St. Patrick’s Day. But, really, what good is that if you don’t have any place in which to celebrate your newfound irish identity? No good at all is what is it. So, in order to address that problem for all the irish converts staying with us this month in the furnished apartments of O Hotel Suites, I have put together this little list of the best parties happening in the downtown core and nearby neighborhoods this St. Paddy’s day. Have fun, and be responsible out there. As the irish say, Guid forder! (good luck). This Green Beer Guide brought to you by O Hotel SuitesThe Ship and Anchor:The rumour this year is that this rowdy 17th Ave pub is holding another dirty limerick contest, as well as hosting a whole slew of performing bands and Irish dancers. On top of performances by The Irwin School of Irish Dancers, they have quite the line up of musical talent coming in. The final band list is still in the works, so stay tuned to their website. Also, there’s no cover, which is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because it’s cheaper, it’s a curse because it will be very busy there. However, if you want to try your hand at making up a limerick it’s the only place to be. Just remember, the format is A, A, B, B, A. I think I might even give it a go…Down at the Ship and Anchor,They’ve been unloading booze from a tanker,It’s all for the music and celebrations,That they’ve brought all these libations,Something something something… rhymes with ‘anchor’… damn it.Molly Malones:This one is a little bit removed from the downtown core, but handily enough there is a C-train station a few blocks away. There’s no replacement for a good old fashioned Irish Pub on St. patrick’s day, and this year Molly Malones is going to be expanding their capacity by tenting over their rooftop patio. The judicious use of outdoor heaters will keep the celtic revelery from shivering in their green socks. While they aren’t doing anything really special this year, Molly’s is a classic enough locale that you should try and get there early if you want a chance to get in.Brewsters:There’s more than one location in Calgary for this successful micro-brewery chain, and they’re all celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. From the start of March, all the way to the day itself on the 17th, these restaurants will be featuring an authentic Irish Menu as well as their signature home-made brews, all of which I’m sure can be dyed green.Related articles by Zemanta* St. Patrick’s Day at the Wine Bar (timesunion.com)* Cuffs: St. Patrick’s Day (passionatefoodie.blogspot.com)* Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant Annapolis Announces News about St. Patrick’s Day in Annapolis- Fadó Proclaims ‘Session On’ March 12th – 17th (prweb.com)
