Guidelines on Domain Name Transfers

While domain name registration is an easy step, transferring domain can become a frightening experience for you, especially if you have little or no idea on the process that you need to follow in transferring the domains. Here are few guidelines that you need to follow:

Know about the Technicalities of Domain registration Transfers – There are many technicalities involved in transferring domain name, and therefore you need to be pretty aware of those technicalities. First and foremost, your domain should be over 60 days old. If your domain is less than 60 days old, the domain registrar will not consider your request for domain transfer.  Keep in your mind that your domain name has not expired as it is a bit difficult, if not impossible to transfer an expired domain. Also make sure whether your registrar is forcing new set of rules on you, if you have plans to transfer the domain to another registrar. If you are transferring the domain to new registrar in case where you have just renewed expired domains, wait for at least one and a half months.

Are You Aware about Your Whois Info? – It is very important that your domain has updated and accurate information as this will help you to transfer the domain registration name to the new registrar almost hassle free. Keep in your mind that the e mail which you have provided in the form of registrant or admin is accessible by you. Every ICANN-accredited registrar is bound through legal procedures to transfer authorization email to email address, and this is very necessary.

Keep in Your Mind that you get Authorization Code for Your TLD- The authorization code or ELP code is listed on your present domain registrar. In many of cases, the registrar will definitely force you to ask your ELP code, before they materialize your domain transfer request. It is only after you have your ELP code that you can go for domain registration name transfers. It is also important to mention here that ELP codes are valid only for 24 hours and you have to make sure that you use it before expiry. You need to go for new ELP code if your previous code expires and this is really troublesome.

Did You Check Your Email – After you have checked Whois information, and got ELP code and submitted it with your current registrar for domain transfer, email is shot in your email ID. The email contains all information which will help you to confirm your future domain registrar. The email will confirm that you are original registrant of domain name and you have requested for domain name registration transfer.

It is the Time to Unlock Your Domain – Once you have completed all the processes involved in domain name registration, it is very necessary that you unlock the domain that will eventually help the new domain registrar for initiating smooth and easy domain transfers. All of this can be materialized only after you have placed transfer order with the new registrar.
